Kids with non-UK passports
Hi, I have 2 children that have never had UK passports but they do have Thai passports (I have both). In the section that asks for Previous Passports (section 4) I will answer yes to the first part (have you had any sort of passport etc) BUT what do I answer to the question that asks "Is this the passport submitted for renewal or travel document attached"? If I answer yes, then I am assuming I have to send in the Thai passport also? BUT if I answer no then it takes me to section 5 which says "If not, give details of previous passport which has been lost stolen etc....so - I am a little confused as to the best way to answer this section. Has anyone had any experience with kids and dual nationalities?

Answer 'no'. Explain that the passport is not available for submission because it is needed for travel. Submit a photocopy of the passport photo page.

Section 5 question ends with "or is not available". You could answer in MarylandNed's way (needed for travel) and then the remaining fields are not relevant for section 5. Don't forget you're applying for a first British passport, not a renewal.

Re: Kids with non-UK passports
Note 7 - Section 4 - Previous Passport
lf you have had a previous British passport, a
Commonwealth passport, a foreign passport or other travel
document of any description or been included in one you
should tick Yes and complete the details.
lf you have never held a passport of any kind, you should
tick No.
So the OP should answer 'Yes' to previous passport, but 'No' to whether is it being submitted with the application (explaining that it is needed for travel purposes and including a photocopy of the passport's photo page). I have done this before.

Not sure exactly which passport application form is being used but the question about previous passports relates to all passports (UK and foreign). Here are the guidance notes from one of the application forms:
