Kids Carrying Greencards at All Times?

Re: Kids Carrying Greencards at All Times?
I carry my green card at all times, I was told I must be able to show when requested. I have done so for a long time now, it is not a problem.
Kids do not need to carry theirs though.

I resent being made to carry my "papers" with me at all times.

I'm assuming he's not expected to carry it.
But am I expected to carry it for him?
Or can we just leave his at home?

From the USCIS site:
"
Permanent Resident Card
The Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551, is issued to all Permanent Residents as evidence of alien registration and their permanent status in the US. The card must be in your possession at all times. This requirement means that you are not only required to have a currently valid Form I-551 at all times, but also that you must carry your currently valid Form I-551 on your person at all times. The Permanent Resident Card currently is issued with a 10-year validity. You status as a Permanent Resident does not expire with the 10-year validity. Only the card expires. The card is only valid up to the expiration date and must be renewed before it expires."
Juveniles would not need to though since it is mostly impractical. As long as you could produce their card on demand it wouldnt be an issue.
Anyway dont forget as a PR you are a protected alien which means you cant be slung on a plane outa here without due process of law during which you could prove your status.

I compromised and keep a photo copy in my wallet.
But then I do not always have my wallet on me.
Perhaps I should learn to speak with an american accent in case I am ever questioned.

$100 fine and/or 30 days imprisonment ... I rather carry the card, as my husband always did, and keep a copy in a safe place, then face imprisonment if caught and sentenced.

I would never carry my GC with me in my wallet....do they bloody well know how long and all that hassle for me to get it, only for someone to steal my wallet or me lose it?
Besides in Texas your driving license is the be-all and end-all of ALL documents....nothing will beat that I.D card, not even your passport!

What happens if:
Passport stamped with Temporary Evidence of Permanent status.
After 6 months Green Card not yet received.
Passport expiring, needs to be sent of with application for new one.
What do you do in the two weeks it takes for passport to come back? Is a photocopy of stamp in passport sufficient evidence of legal status?

You should have been carrying it anyway!
$100 fine sounds a much better deal to me than the cost and hassle of replacing it. My office do not stamp so I do not have that as a back up.
