It was remarkably quick, certainly less than 2 weeks. Once I had received my new licence I had to post back my old pink licence to the DVLA in Swansea. I was never asked to do anything with my US licence, and when I went back to the USA the following year for a couple of weeks visiting my son I used my new UK licence when hiring a car. That US licence (Texas) has now long since expired.
