K3/police verification

Hello:

I recently sent an email to the U.S. Consulate in Chennai (India) to ask for information on obtaining a police verification for my husband. Apparently, only the NVC or consulate can get certain verification forms (and my husband worked in Curacao--which is owned by the Netherlands).

They sent me a reply stating that no police verification is required for K3 visa. Does this sound correct????

Because from what I have been reading, people are obtaining them to take to the interview; also, I believe it is on the checklist of items to bring.

Any thoughts? I will print out the email I received and take it along to the interview, but if someone just gave us bad advice, it probably won't protect us from having to obtain a police verification later on.

I appreciate your help..

Kim

Does anyone know how to reach Ashwini? She had used the Chennai consulate, so maybe she can help me.

Thanks,
Kim

Not sure if you tried but did you look at the past post from her to find her
email address.

You also could try the following NG. There are a few people going via Chennai.

Kim,

Yes you will need Police Report. Kim I recommend since you are using the Chennai
consulate to look over http://madras.sphynx.com/index.html -- this is their site.
Furthermore, with regard to your questin about police verification..

The following is taken directly from the site... hope it helps...

NEW IMMIGRANT VISA PROCESSING PROCEDURES

All new Indian immigrant visa applicants whose appointments are scheduled after
January 31, 2002 will require Indian police certificates as outlined below.

INDIAN POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATES SHOULD BE OBTAINED AS FOLLOWS:

-- All Indian IV applicants age 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police
certificates from the local passport office. Applicants whose Indian passport was
issued within the past six months may present just the passport office police
certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances. -- Applicants over age
16 whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application must
also obtain a police clearance from the district police office serving the
applicant's place of residence. -- Indian passport holders applying for visas outside
India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they
have no criminal record. -- Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain
police certificates from the district police station serving their area of residence.
-- Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants
applying outside India.

Every K-3 case I've ever heard of need the police certificate.

Here's my current time line:

Re: K3/police verification

I did eventually get a reply back from the consulate. And for anyone in a similar situation, this is how I understood it. The local police certificates are required at the time of the K3 interview, and then we will need to obtain all other overseas certificates for his I-130. What a hassle.. :)

Thanks,
Kim

Re: K3/police verification

There is a list of countries that don't give police certificates.

I'm wondering if Bangladesh is one of them?

Does anyone know where I can get such a list?

Thanks.
