K1 Visa Type?
Hi,
I would like to know whether or not the K1 Visa is considered a "non-immigrant" visa or an "immigrant" visa? I have been reading information on both the INS and the State Department websites.
For the Canadians out there... Is it possible to "call" Montreal and choose your own date in the "distant" future? What is a customer service number that I can call for general information?
Thanks,
Ian

Re: K1 Visa Type?
As far as I can figure the K1 is considered a non-immigrant visa because
your adjustment of status is based upon your marriage, the visa just gives
you official permission to actually marry. If you do not marry then you do
not have the ability to adjust therefore the visa itself is not permission
to immigrate.
I think thats roughly how it works
Can't help on your second question I'm afraid.

K-1 is a non-immigration visa. And no you can't call Montreal and setup a date for a future interview for the K-1. You can call them, or course, do a google search for a recent post with the number, but they will not give you a date until after your paperwork is received by them and the date is of their chosing. They might be willing to make it within a certain timeline if you indicate that your wedding plans are such and such a date.

They seem to be pretty flexible.
We had our pre-wedding "reception" (ie party wif cake) already
scheduled, and they gave my beloved that date for the interview, oops.
But an email to (iirc) MontrealIV/[email protected] and they moved it to a
week earlier, no muss no fuss.
And they were to all reports very nice there. At least the Americans
were; the security guard outside was, I'm told, a bit of a bear.
