My fiance and I applied for K1 visa and have our approval notice from the USA. I know that now I have to file papers here in the UK, but what I want to know is that now we have the approval notice does that mean we can celebrate? Does it mean I'll definately get my visa? If not, why not? What happens now after I file my papers here? What other checks are there if any?

Thank you for any help!

No there is no guarantee that you will get the K-1 visa.

There is the medical, police clearance, US Consulate FBI check on you and the determination of the US Consulate employee as to whether your relationship is legitimate.

Usually if a K-1 is denied it is because of criminal activity and/or the paperwork is not sufficient or the sponsor does not have the financial ability to sponsor the fiancee.

No. You can't celebrate just yet. The decision on a visa is made on the day of your
interview at the US Embassy in London.

File the papers as instructed at the top of the IV-15 form and send the IV-15 itself
when you have collected the necessary documentation. Send JUST the form, NOT the
documentation itself - you bring that to the interview.

Once your papers have been processed, you will be contacted with an interview date.
On that day, you must undergo a straightforward medical (chest x-ray, blood test etc)
before the interview itself.

If the interview goes well, you will be issued a visa on that very day. THEN you can
celebrate!

>does that mean we can celebrate?

First of all congratulations, why not have a party to celebrate this first victory, but do remember it's just one of several obstructions you have to get over before you get that visa.

>Does it mean I'll definately get my visa?

No.

>If not, why not?
>What other checks are there if any?

Rete is correct and has outlined the "why not" very well indeed. You are only over the 1st hurdle in the process.

>What happens now after I file my papers here?

Slow down! You will get a brown envelope form the US embassy in London. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. As Simon says, don't send all your certificates in with the checklist. You can expidite the process by gathering all the certificates and applying for the police certificate NOW. See one of the FAQ sites for details (links on Rete's sig).

Once you send your completed IV15 back (it is in the brown envelope they send, called the packet#3), they will do all the checks on you, and send you a packet#4, which has medical details and your interview appointment letter in it.

Turn up on the day AS INSTRUCTED at the docs, go through the medical and then go to the embassy (I got a lengthy description of this on my web site as I did all this just a few weeks ago). At the embassy, you hand in all your documents/certificates/photocopies etc. Only then and assuming everything is ok, they will fix the visa in your passport.

Only when you have the visa actually in your passport, can you celebrate BIG TIME

Brian.
