k1 and fingerprinting

hello
my fiancee (USC) had applied for a K1 visa for me as we are planning to get
married in Jan. I have also done my part of application at the US Consulate in
Chennai, India and was told then that my visa had been approved and would be
sent to me asap. Two weeks later I received a letter asking me to present
myself for fingerprinting. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I mean, is it
routine for K1 applicants to be fingerprinted? And how long should I be
expected to wait now for further procedures?
somebody help
