Default K-1 processing

Have any Canadians applied for a K-1 to the Texas service center? If so:
  • What does applying for a K-1 involve?
  • How many steps are involved?
  • How long does the whole process take?
  • How long does each step take?
  • What do I need to bring to the consulate interview?
  • When did you apply?

I am more interested in hearing Canadians experience for the timelines, but anyone who knows about the process itself is welcome to share their knowledge.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Read through previous posts... ...and scroll down. )

    > * What does applying for a K-1 involve?

- It involves the US citizen filing a I-129F for his fiance(e) and other necessary
documents. (Check out http://www.txdirect.net/users/mike3-
8/k1faq.htm
.

    > * How many steps are involved?
Again, review the above links.

    > * How long does the whole process take?
Approximately 4-6 months, depending on your case and the service center AND consulate
you are using.

    > * How long does each step take?
In essence there are only four:
1) the US citizens petition for fiance visa (I only know about this, not about the
spousal visa)
2) the *foreigners* application for the *actual* visa (including police certificate,
medical, etc) and paperwork
3) the *foreigners* interview with their country's US consulate
4) entering the US with their approved visa

    > * What do I need to bring to the consulate interview?
If you are the US citizen, you are not required to attend. If you are the
NON-citizen, you must bring all originals of the required documents sent in with the
inital petition and others...detailed in the links above.

    > * When did you apply?
My fiance (USC) applied the beginning of June, 2002 at the TSC and we were approved
the end of July, 2002.

I am in Edmonton, AB, Canada, and my fiance is in Atlanta, GA, USA. )

Only US citizens are eligible to file for K-1. See this site for detailed
instructions on how to file. http://www-
