I have been here over 30 years, and each time that I go back to UK, I am more convinced that I made the right decision.

It all has to do with where you think that "home" is.

For me "home" is California, and has been pretty much since the day that I arrived here over 20 years ago.

I do get homesick sometimes but, since "home" is California, that only happens during my visits to the UK.

My husband has just returned from a trip to the UK, has been maddening me by reeling off the great TV he saw, he seemed somewhat surprised that the places he visited (Glasgow, Newcastle and London) appeared to be in good shape with people partying it up

I miss the UK a lot for what it's worth, but things are not right for a move back for us yet.

I miss my family so much and got to spend some wonderful time with them having Sunday dinners, pub lunches, etc. My husband came with me and we rented a car. My hometown is Harrogate so I'm a Yorkshire lass and nowhere is as beautiful as the Yorkshire Dales. We had wonderful weather, lucky for us I know, the daffodils and crocuses were out and the new lambs were running around. Now that I'm back here I am just so depressed and homesick. I feel like it will be ages till I see everyone again and my little nieces and nephews are growing up fast, every time I see them they've changed. I miss every little thing about England, every aspect of my home town, I feel much more at home there than I do in the US. I have lived in the US for going on 20 years, I actually became a citizen so I wouldn't have to mess with the green card anymore, but I would move back in a heartbeat. My husband doesn't want to leave the US and I don't want to leave him, so what do I do? We live in North Dakota which is a pretty desolate place and still in the throes of mid-winter. Anyone else get really down when they come back here after a visit?
I get completely depressed every time I return to the US from a trip home. I feel so bad for my husband because he is eagerly (or so he says) waiting for my arrival and when I do arrive I am a miserable sod because all I can think about is what I have left behind, and how I would much rather be back there than here.
It usually takes me a few weeks to get back into the US mode. It happens every single time I go home. There have been times I have been extremely tempted to just not come back.
I joke to my hubby "This is my home. And I'm sick of it". I don't think that's what they mean by homesick though.
Nah, I am usually fine after a mope. I decide I have to be happy with what I have, but it IS hard when you first return.
I have been in the US for 20 years too, just like you.

At least we can chat to others that feel like we do.

You and me both!

Hope all is well with you otherwise

I'm happy for those who have settled here, but I know it'll never happen for me, so for the moment I am biding my time.

From one who likes to watch UK TV...the last couple of times I've been here the TV's been crap. Only a few worthwhile programs (granted I don't have Sky)...too many reality shows IMO.

I tend to be the other way around. If I've not been home in a while I tend to get really homesick, miss the food, the rain (!?!) my brothers and sisters. Its been ten fold at the moment as I'm pregnant and miss sharing it with my family. Sharing things over a blog and FB just isn't the same.

Then I go home for a week and remember there is 5000 miles between me and my family I'm doing a trip home next week to remind me of this and to get my fill of battered sausages that I've been craving for 3 months.

I do the same thing to my poor Dh. He's all excited waiting for us to get back and I dont want to get off the plane, I want to go back.
I feel bad, he's all chatty and happy to see us and I'm in a snippy bad mood. I've been here just over 20 years too (with a year back about 16 yrs ago)

I would love to go home for a visit, I miss my Sisters and a few friends back there, I haven't been home for almost 4 years now. I have been in the US on and off for about 16 years now and I know that if I were to go back permanently, it would be without my 2 Sons, I couldn't do that, so I have made the US my home (in my heart and mind) I finally got my USC last year, after coming to the realization that I couldn't go back. We have a great life here, we couldn't have it in the UK. I have some great friends here that feel like family to me. I am happy here and as long as I know I can go back for visits if I want too, I am content
