Just e-filed my first US tax return

I'm feeling rather proud of myself.

I've just managed to e-file my first US tax return

My wife (US Citizen) and I (Brit) emigrated from UK to US half way 2004 and we were worried that the tax return process would be complicated for this year.

After getting quotes of $100+ per hour from specialist companies, we decided to go onto irs.gov and check out what is involved. We followed a link for Free Electronic Filing and somehow ended up at a turbo tax page.

It took us about an hour to go through the program and fill in the figures and we came out with getting all our US tax back that we paid in 2004.

There was no fee involved to file electronically and have the refund paid into our bank account.

OK, so I know it's not rocket science, but after worrying about this for a few weeks, its nice to get it out of the way.

Yes, I quite agree John. Just did this myself a few days ago. I was amazed at how easy it was as well. Now just sitting around waiting for the refund to be deposited into our account. :D
