Joint bank account or not?
If I am trying to build up my credit rating in the US as the permanent resident - is it better for me to open an account alone or have it as a joint account with my wife ( US citizen)?

Makes no odds with joint bank account.
Get on her credit cards as an authorized user though, that'll bump your score quickly as long as it's a decent limit with low utilization.

We had joint checking and individual savings. Added him to one of my cards and within six months his rating was in the 700s. Got car loan on his own after that.

Would definitely agree the advice on getting on spouse’s credit card. I did that and the Amex global transfer. Didn’t open a joint account. Arrived late April and have just checked and my score is in the high 700s.

Makes no difference unless it's a US Bank account with overdraft protection. Most checking accounts do not have a loan aspect associated with them, but the odd one does.
