That's a fair point, and certainly one worth weighing heavily against others, especially considering their ages.

OP do you actually know what visa is being proposed?... I saw someone mention an L1, not all would offer and EAD for your wife. And the potential path to a GC and length of the process varies as well depending on your experience and qualifications.

Not to be negative, but since you have a family your should understand how the US works, so keep in mind that while you may be offered a 3 year term, your visa is only valid if you remain an employee, so worst case if something happens and you are terminated (which can be a much simpler for a US employer to do than the UK process, some states are “employment at will” meaning they can fire you the same day without a reason) you would have to leave the US pretty fast unless you have already secured your green card, you can’t always just apply for another visa depending what type you are on.

We love Charlotte, NC and have two kids aged 11 and 14. I don’t know the Atlanta area very well but Charlotte is a smaller city. I would be happy to private message for any further questions

Is there some reason why you always offer to PM people? Generally PMing advice is discouraged (not "prohibited" per se), so are you afraid that not everyone who lives in or near Charlotte might not share your views?

3. My wife is a qualified and experienced dental nurse with a UK qualification (she is registered with the UK Dental Council). If after a period of time she wanted to do this in the US (aware she'd need an EAD....and a job offer!) does the UK qualification carry in the US? Its not a degree level, its a diploma and I would guess it sits somewhere between a high school diploma and a technical cert, but she has bags of experience.

Petitefranaise would be the member for the best advice about this. She has a higher qualification in dentistry but I am sure she would be the most knowledgeable.

I will take a stab at this. I am a retired US dentist but no expert on this subject. There are three basic levels of Dental auxiliary personnel but states vary on requirements. A dental assistant works chair side passing instruments and materials, can take impressions and in general works under direct supervision. Many are trained on the job and others may have attended a technical school of a few months duration. A good reliable assistant is highly valued and usually paid well after they have proven themselves. The next step up in many states is a expanded duty assistant that can do what was previously mentioned but also trained to place fillings, take xrays. Training requirements vary. The third is a dental hygienist which is a two to four year degree. They can take xrays, do teeth scaling/cleaning, preliminary exams.
Unless your wife is a trained hygienist she would fall into the assistant category and with her extensive experience she could easily find a job begin work and worry about certifications later if her state recognized expanded duty assistants.

Aren't L-1s now on hold until January 1, 2021 anyway? Not sure if that means not even allowed to start the process of form filing, or if it just means they aren't being issued (so you could potentially do everything bar the interview and then sit and wait for interviews to recommence). In any event, it gives you maybe some more time to think about things.
