Job hunting without degree....
Hi folks,
For any people who are working in the states without a degree..... Was it tougher to find a job? Ive always heard that a degree is nearly always a must?? Ive a 2 year diploma in Manufacturing Eng (doing an IT diploma through OU at present but wont have that till 2007) and nearly 7 years industry experience. Im 26 yrs old. Im hoping to get married to my American girlfriend maybe at the end of next year and move to USA. She of course has about 10 degrees!!!
Any help or ideas would be great!!
Boylerz.

I would say a degree is a must when job searching "blindly", i.e. sending your resume to perspective employers.
In I.T. - in the US - it's certainly who you know rather than what you know which is most important, unless you want to work at Google.
I don't think where your degree is from will really affect job seeking unless you've got a degree from a well known university.

USPS......
Employees must be a United States citizen, a lawful permanent resident alien (i.e., possession of a “green card”), a citizen of American Samoa or any other territory owing permanent allegiance to the United States. Individuals solely granted asylum status, refugee status or conditional permanent resident status are not eligible for Postal Service employment.

A two year diploma of any sort may be considered equivalent to a US associate degree which is probably not worth much.
If your seven years employment history is outstanding, particularly in demand, or in a niche industry (i.e. there's few out there with those skills/experience), it may be worth considering "going back to school", i.e. getting an American degree, perhaps a vocational one relating to your employment background.

I can, for a very modest fee, furnish anyone with certification for a degree of their chosing from a very reputable UK university.

I spelled out "to" instead of "the" because I was under the influence of a 30 second commercial on TV playing Opera. Hard to type with your fingers in your ears.
