Also Maine, to some extent....but it's proving to be rather shite, overly expensive for the state and not that good cover.

How expensive is the Maine system then? If its no more than about $300 a month per person, I would count that as a bargain.

I don't know the details as I haven't really followed it, something through Derigo (sp?) But I think its' costing the state around $1K a person.

$1K per person ... per year???? A bargain. I would buy into that, would love to get my mum on that.

I think mine is around $400 a month and have to pay the first $1,000 of every visit to the hospital and then 20% after the first $1,000. I can't get health insurance for my mother, will have to wait on a prayer until she makes USC and then it will be around $360 (at todays rates) to get her on a version of Medicare. Soon as she becomes a USC I am hiring a specialist elder law specialist to get the best deal for her. Though frankly, I think I will be moving back to the UK soon as I decide to step off the accelerator peddle.

per person per month? I find that hard to believe, not with their buying power and orders of scale. No siree. Unless the powers that be negotiated a really silly deal.

That's the problem, it's really shite and only available for small numbers, been in the testing for the last year, hence not very large, or much buying power...and you have to be rather poor to qualify for it, but not poor enough for medicare/caid.

But the people it is covering so far from what I can gather aren't spring chickens, so it sounds like they are getting a lot of care that they wouldn't otherwise, heart by-pass, cancer treatment etc.

I wonder what the procedure will be as regards me living in Canada when we get married? Would I have to return home?.
For BUNAC Canada, do you not need to be a college student? I did BUNAC Great Britain and for that you need to be a college student or have attended college very recently (6 months maybe? I forget).

I don't have a degree. I worked for ten years in Healthcare in the IT field in England. I got a customer support job here pretty quickly. Finding something better without a degree is proving to be much harder, even with my experience. One thing that I have noticed, however, is that networking here is more prevelant. A lot of guys that I have spoken to have got their jobs through word of mouth. Like a previous reply to this thread said 'It's not what you know it's who you know". I'm grateful to have a job and am quite content to build up a bit of job history here while looking and applying for other jobs as they arise.

Rubbish, you have several degrees. For example, you are only six degrees from the President.
