Question JFK - Manhatten - NJ by public transport?

Normally I'd get taxis and/or limos, but this time I actually have to pay, so.........

What's the best but hopefully also economical way of getting (a) from JFK to Manhatten (MOMA), and (b) from there to Edison?

Thanks!

with regard to the JFK - Manhattan leg:
taxi will be easiest but obviously a lot more expensive - and more often than not it will take ages. Every time I have ever driven to/from JFK, whether I've been flying myself or picking up/dropping off people there, the traffic has been a nightmare. Unless you have a stack of baggage with you, airtrain/subway is the way to go.

As for the other leg - try here:

Thanks! I've taken the Airtrain before, so that should work.

As for getting from Manhattan, I guess a train from Penn Station to Newark + taxi from there might work - or is there a better way?

I think you can also get a train all the way from Penn Station to Edison.

I was hoping I could but that journey planner was giving me trouble. Will try again. Good to know I can go there all the way - thanks!

(Bloody karma spreading nonsense - would if I could... )

Is this quicker and/or easier than the Airtrain? Where at JFK do they leave from, and are they fairly frequent?

Thanks!

To get to the Airtrain you need to get to Queens, so you may as well drive to the airport, park and use the Airtrain from the car park. The busses leave at least every hour to all terminals, it may be every half hour during peak times.
I know this because when I have been to the airport, there are signs advertising the bus service outside every terminal and last year while waiting for my Son to arrive I was outside having a cigy and at least wo pulled up.

Manhattan - Edison

NJ Transit Northeast Corridor. Most of the trains to Trenton from Penn Station stop at Edison and they run about every half hour or so.

I fly from JFK all the time. If I don't take my car to the airport because I'm going to be gone for a long time (and I have never had a problem with traffic to JFK from Westchester County ... lucky me ;-)) I take one of the bus shuttles to Manhattan. They stop at both Grand Central and Penn Station. One way is about $7.50.

There are many options to choose from if you look at the 'Ground Transportation' section of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey website (click on JFK airport then Ground Transportation - or for NJ you can click on EWR (Newark Liberty airport). For Edison is the the Metropark that you are heading to? Right next to the Metropark is Oak Tree Road where all the Indian expats live.....it's like being in Southall, Middx..........lots of Indian restaurants, sweet shops, sari, video and ethnic food shops...try to pay a quick visit if poss!:

To be honest, the limo service from Carmel or Dial 7 from the airport to Manhatten is cheaper than a taxi as it is at a fixed rate, the cars are nice and they will be holding a card with your name on in the arrivals hall. If you choose to get one when you arrive at the airport, you can pick up a card with a $5 or $6 discount voucher and book it on the spot using the courtesy phones. You can pre-book online too. I can recommend Carmel as I've used them myself:

Thanks, this is very useful information!

I doubt I'll have time to hang out in Edison though - it's just a quick in-out work-related trip. Will probably stay at one of the Sheratons there.

QUOTE]

Just a quick note that Edison and Metropark are two separate stations with Metuchen station between them. So double check to make sure which is the nearest station to your accommodation.

Why are you flying into JFK? Newark Liberty Airport would be the quickest and easiest airport for getting to Manhattan and Edison. The airport is roughly half way between both places you need to go to.
