J1 status
Hey ppl,
I have somequestions and do let me know the answers to this ASAP and would be truly appreciated. Im in a J1 and I have the status till July 2003.I want to know: 1)If my compny files bankrupcy or closes bcoz of any issue what abt my J1 status? 2)Should I be on a payroll for status? 3)How many days can I stay in US from the day of my company closing wothout payroll? so can i stay in US without payroll as I have a status until July 2003. Another quick question... do i surely need a waiver to aply for a H1? As far as I know to change my status from J1 to H1 I need not have a waiver...to get a stamping from my home country thats when i need a waiver...is this true? your response would be highly appreciated. As far as I know, your status is connected with your job. If you don't work at the same company anymore, you status expires. 2)Should I be on a payroll for status? No, there are also interns on J1, who don't get paid. Status has nothing to do with wether you are on payroll or not (I think so). 3)How many days can I stay in US from the day of my company closing wothout payroll? After your status expires, you have a 30 day grace period. so can i stay in US without payroll as I have a status until July 2003.
