If you don't know what it is, you probably don't have one and should write "None" in
that field. The Alien Registration Number, or A#, is a number that INS assigns to
certain aliens; once you have it, it sticks with you for life similar to a social
security number.

The A# is issued when somebody applies for a Green Card, as well as when he is placed
in deportation proceedings, and in a number of other situations where the INS needs
to keep track of somebody for a long period of time, rather than just for one visit.
