The US Embassy in London quotes the J-1 visa processing time as being around fourteen days. Once I obtain my IAP-66 does anyone have any ideas as to how I could get this process speeded up. I know the processing department and the way in which they operate, but I need to hasten their service. Any ideas?

I've heard that it takes less time than 14 days, but they won't publish it because
they could not always hold to it.

Some of these agents say they can get a visa in less time than 14 days. Although this
is hearsay, I heard that Rapid Visa Services claimed a very fast processing time.

Further to the question from millionaire100, my girlfriend gets her IAP-66 for a J-1
visa by the end of this week. I thought if you go to the US Embassy in London in
person you can get the visa on the same day, or at least by the next day? Is that not
correct? If not, how long does it normally take?

Any comments or experience on this would be much appreciated!

Regards, Neil

This was my experience with an H-1B: Dropped it at the dropbox "outside" (it's really
in an entrance) of the embassy on a Monday afternoon. Received the passport back with
the visa on the Thursday morning. You cannot pick it up so don't even try!
Additionally, I used the dropbox because, at the time
(1997), the embassy's website said it was much quicker than mailing it to them. They
no longer say that's the case so she could just mail the application.

I would think this is "low season" so they probably aren't busy.

Andy.

Walk-in, same-day (or next-day) service is not available at the U.S. Embassy in
London. See http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web/visa/niv/apply.htm.
