Default Ipad3 confused

Hello,

Am I missing something? I just bought ipad3 from Apple for $550 including taxes. I see this add on ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Apple-3-...578944706?var=

Whats the price difference? Is this ebay one a real deal?

$550-$479=$71.00 cheaper if you had bought the Ebay one. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Gray markets flourish when companies try to artificially fix prices.

I particularly enjoyed paying a ton of cash for my MacBook, replacing the windows based Toshiba laptop that had only cost me 40% of what the Mac cost me, but which was unusable for about 90 minutes a day, every day. I loved how over paying enabled me to get those 90 minutes back. Working as a self employed consultant, where time was money, I was very happy to overpay... That MacBook is still going strong after nearly 6 years. To be fair, I'd previous to that Toshiba, had a Dell running Windows, and that was brilliant, totally reliable etc. and cost more than the MacBook did. Horses for course, and I'll happily pay over the odds again

HOWEVER... I think Apple may be losing it a little just at the moment - OSX Lion is a little disappointing - more like windows in a bad way...

AND I wonder how long it is before (if?) the strategy of charging Apple users more for a hotel room backfires... There's a difference between value for money, low cost, and being taken for a ride by a hotel company...

Now that the word is out, true or not, that some companies are charging Apple users more, how will these companies respond? For me, I have to book. Y travel, hotels, rental car etc through AmEx - I have no choice on that. Apparently it saves my employer money by having it's well above average wage employees who don't know much about travel etc, to spend an hour a time (ok, 30 mins...) booking their own travel... Saves cash at the expense of opportunity costs... Sounds like an idea an accountant might have

My laptop is never unusable as it always runs a nice and stable *nix, a bit like OSX but we don't get viruses like you guys. I doubt I've ever spent more than 25% of what a Macbook Wank costs. The longest any of my laptops have ever lasted is probably around 3 years. But that's because I fling it on to the car seat or carry-on bag and I don't really care -- it's tax deductible, anyway. I'm sure if you lent me your Macbook, I could also destroy it in under 3 years as it has exactly the same parts from China inside but cost you 4x the price. I lean towards Lenovo, but not exclusively.

Silly bickering aside, running windows 7 and snow leopard on my Mac is pretty boss. The benefits of both on one machine.

Orbitz never charged Mac Users more - rightly or wrongly, they simply sorted the search results so that Mac users saw slightly more expensive room options as 'recommended' ahead of some of the cheaper options everyone else saw first. All the room options were priced the same - just sorted differently.

No-one who really wants the cheapest deals books through Orbitz anyway - so everyone effectively pays a premium for convenience.

My hubby has to use amex too and still looks for his own flights before he calls them as they continuously want to send him crazy routes to get from a to b with horrendous layovers. He finds his flights, calls them, and tells them what to book, all of which they charge ($60 I think) a time for. Usually the flights he wanted were not even offered on his booking system. And he has found their flights cheaper elsewhere!!

Actually, the difference is $20! The price of the new iPad (NOT officially called iPad 3) 16Gb WiFi is $499 and the rest is tax. Buying from out of state more often than not will save being charged tax, which varies from state to state (E.G. zero in Delaware, 9.25% in Tennessee, etc.).

The same applies to anything you buy, so the $20 is a fair comparison, not the $70 that it looks like.

Personally, I'd rather pay the extra than risk getting one from Fleabay anyway!

More importantly, you don't know if it's the genuine article and when you find out it's a cheap chinese copy, the seller is long gone with your money!

I've just started playing around with a RaspberryPi - $35 plus an SD card to hold the OS, I put a flavour of Debian on it. Runs fine. No case, so just a bare board, but pretty resilient given the poor way I transport it to/from the office!

I'm curious about the Lenovos - these are the 'official' supplier for us - many of them just don't fare too well - not sure if that is the design/manufacture or the support they get post sale... I had one for a while, and it was not a good experience. Several colleagues thoug have had no troubles with them - does seem to be a mixed bag. Yup - pretty much the same components in these and the Macs, main differences being the display, battery, chassis & case. The exception I believe is the new top end MacBook, which to me just looks like a 'bridge too far' and very much I the category of MacBook wank

Thx for clarifying, I wasn't aware of this, and it does make sense. Nobody is surely that dumb to open their business to a 'shellacking' since the Gerald Ratner fiasco...
