Default Investments, Pentions and Other

Hey, so I'm at that point in my life now where I'm really starting to consider retirement and the future for investments.

So, I'm wondering what other people my age or other have done in order to set themselves up for the future. My currently circumstances are: I live in the USA currently at the ROC process and intend on filing my n400 this summer.

I have paid any NIC (UK) since I left in 2015, or set up any of the USA 401K, mutual funds or other stuffs. So, I'm wondering what is actually worth doing? I'm currently looking at paying NIC for a pension in the UK.

What recommendations would you guys have? Thanks Dave
