International Mover Help! From UK to MN
I'm looking for personal recommendations of movers from the UK to the US, specifically MN if anyone can help. It's a minefield trying to find any good reviews on any movers. We are not planning on moving any furniture at all, it will just be boxes, approx 30 depending on size. Thanks in advance for your help.

The search doesn't work. I was trying to find out exactly the same info last week and got nothing but threads from 2008.
OP - Doree bonner are the ones I am using. They where the most helpful and their quote was reasonable.
Depending on where you are based there might be more options.
Bournes (who are posters on here I think) were also really good in terms of CS.
Get three or 4 quotes and compare the service and costs. You can also use the quotes to negotiate with them.

I have just moved to the US and decided to go with Pickfords based on the professional way that they conducted themselves and the services that were offered. They were not the cheapest but I still felt that could do the best job.
Unfortunately, we have run into major problems with them shipping our stuff. 9 weeks after leaving the UK they have still not started shipping our stuff. They have told me that they have no early shipping options open to them. Hope that this helps in some way.

Search is supposed to be fixed now.
I used Pickfords UK-US 9 years ago and I was happy with the service.
Going back US-UK now, their quote and demeanour seemed odd, I have gone with Rainier who have been recommended by a few people on here.
Apparently the shipment has arrived OK and is being stored, but I can't give a final opinion until I take delivery of it.

I'm getting quotes from Dorree Bonner, Pickfords and Anglo Pacific. They all seem to have good reviews.

Must admit we have to use Pickfords and have had nothing but problems with them so wouldn't recommend.

Re: International Mover Help! From UK to MN
I used Pickfords and found the way they packed my items was absolutely nuts in some of the boxes; I had huge, heavy items packed on top of lighter, smaller ones. One of my first edition books was so damaged that the spine is now permanently curved at a horrible angle, and in general there's so much that's been squashed and damaged (but books especially). Very disappointed.
Of course, that might have been the exception, but I certainly didn't have a good experience and that's all I can talk about.

The problem with nationwide companies is that one office/depot will be great and another absolutely rubbish, so reviews are going to be varied. We used Pickfords and the only complaint really was the teenager who packed 3-4 wine glasses - no support, wrapped in a couple of sheets of paper, and stuff on top, so of course they broke at the stem. They weren't worth much: it was more annoying than anything. But the other two packers were great and everything else arrived fine.

The company we used were Bishops, who I believe are based in Swindon, but at this end (in MN) they contracted to Mohawk. We used Mohawk again when we moved last year, as they were so good.

Re: International Mover Help! From UK to MN
I got quotes from two companies; Pickfords and Britannia George Bernard Shaw. Pickfords seemed very set on the them packing my goods even though it's a difficult one as I'm not taking everything with me. It would essentially require me to stand over someone saying pack this, don't pack this. They also came up as £200 more expensive than the other company which is a big difference considering I'm only moving 120 c ft of stuff. BGBS seemed a lot more flexible and their agent was happyt I come see me on an evening when u couldn't fit a day visit into my schedule. BGBS also included a lot more extras in their quote. I'm only at the beginning of the while process so can't comment on the actual service but so far BGBS seem a lot more flexible and tailored the service to my needs.

Avoid Movecorp like a rabid dog. They are rip off merchant's.

not sure where you are based but Langdon's removals in Bristol are great. They move just about all the Airbus employees between the UK and Toulouse and I don't think I ever heard one complaint about them in all the years I was there. They will also do international removals so maybe try giving them a call?

Here's a post with some tips on finding a reputable moving company, including where to look for independent reviews and some directories of certified international moving companies. Hope it helps.
