Default international money order

Does anyone know where I can get an international money order? The US Post Office version is not accepted in the UK. Bank of America and Wamu don’t do them. I just tried the Amercican Express travel office and they charge $25 for a bankers draft. I just need a money order for 10 pounds

Thanks!

Western Union? Check their website - there will still be a fee though.

Don't you have a 10 pound note? I think I'd risk mailing that or doing so via a relative in the UK and then get them to write a cheque or go to the Post Office for a Postal Order (if they still have those!)

It'll be good, but it'll cost them more to cash it in...

It's the hardest thing to get whatever in Sterling currency from a bank here. They charge an arm and a leg and always have to order it.

If you have a 10 Pound note, send it in the mail wrapped in foil. That is the latest thing since carbon paper days and I did that last year with no problem.

Otherwise like Englishmum said get a relative or friend in UK to do it for you, which again I had my cousin pay a couple of deposits for accommodation for us because we were in Florida at the time and the banks here are so antiquated when it comes to foreign currency.
In Canada no problem you just get money order or whatever it is you want.

I tried to get one here and you cannot get one ANYWHERE!

I have a visa card from England and I was trying to pay the balance...well since the Stupid Act..emm...I mean Patriot Act, they couldnt pay my credit card from my bank because there wasnt a street address to send it to.

So I tried to get an intenational money order and couldnt...anywhere!

So i had to hide cash in a book and send it to my mum to pay....RIDICULOUS!

Actually that's probably illegal...so..i didnt do that at all

My husband said, why don't you just write a US dollar cheque and send that over, or send a $20.00 or whatever the exchange rate is, wrapped in foil. They can pay the cheque in or cash the note at the Bank or Marks and Spencer will do it for free.

You have to calculate what 10GBP is in US dollars.

...at M&S's buy rate, which is probably shite but not as bad as what most banks would charge to take in a cheque drawn on a US bank.

Edit: So - as a way of getting 10 quid across the cash idea is probably one of the better ones.

It's time the merkin banks got their act together and entered the real world. I just read in the paper today that many shops in NYC now take pounds and euros for purchases, and also that Europeans working in America are increasingly demanding to be paid in euros.
So, banks... start issuing drafts in euros and pounds on demand. America's just another country, it aint special.

Shops in NYC took foreign currency when I was there in 2000. It's nothing new. It's just that it's newsworthy now. You have been able to pay with euros in chains like Marks and Spencer in the UK for years too.

Trouble is, the number of foreign currency transactions that would go though each individual branch (with the exception of a few highly-touristed areas) would be negligible. It's probably not worth their while getting into this market - more's the pity.

Get your mum or a friend or rellie in the UK to go to the Post Office and buy a Postal Order (although will probably need to send the 10 pounds over in cash + the commission fee so they can go and buy it for you! )

The Postal Order can be printed in the name of the company you're doing business with if you wish - then they can't deny receiving cash if you were to send them a 10 pound note instead:
