Internal travel within the USA on L1 Visa
I have an L1 Visa and will be flying in out of California this week but still within the USA - do I need my passport to do this? I am conscious of losing any of my official visa certificates so ideally do not want to take anything with me that isn't necessary.
Thanks!

I was in Arizona last year on vacation and if I didn't have my passport with me to prove status - I would have been detained a lot longer at a checkpoint. Perhaps photocopies of the visa page would have sufficed? I don't know.

I only have a UK driving license outside of my passport - can I travel on that?

If you don't have US ID, you should bring your passport, IMO.
At your next opportunity, get a State ID card, even if you don't intend to get a US Drivers License.

How long have you been in California? According to your earlier posts you were moving early 2014.
You should have obtained your California driving licence by now if residing in California. It is mandated by law that you obtain one within 10 days. This timescale is impossible these days but you should, at least, have applied for one.
Should you be stopped by the police they will fine you.
As previously said a UK licence means nothing here so you'll need to carry your passport.

Thanks - yes been here since January.
I do not have a car in the US so have had no need to get the California driving license, for ID purposes I have been carrying my UK license (e.g. for alcohol/bar entry). Sounds like my UK license won't be accepted at airports so I will likely get the California State ID as suggested, that way I don't have to carry my passport/VISA around.

How do you manage in CA without a car? Are you in a city perhaps?
Was thinking though, surely at some point you'll want to hit the road and explore

My foreign husband has been living and working in West Hollywood, CA without a car for the past 10 years.
Whenever he wants to go exploring, either I come there or he comes home to Phoenix and I do the driving.

I'm lucky enough to live and work within 5 blocks of the beach in Santa Monica - my morning commute is a few minutes walk!
And for exploring, well that's what Uber is for
