Depending where you flying from/to Southwest are usually one of the cheapest especially if you book far enough in advance and can get the cheap seats

Best to look at a website which checks virtually all the domestic airlines plying the route you're planning to take:

http://www.kayak.com

(You don't book tickets on kayak, you click on to the link to the website selling the ticket at the price or times most convenient to you). This site also checks prices on JetBlue, AirTran and VirginAmerica, plus a link directly to the SouthWest Airlines site for their prices.

It's also often worth considering going to another airport in your region as sometimes the long-term parking is really cheap and the flights less expensive. We once flew from JFK rather than our nearest airport - Newark - as for three of us it was cheaper to fly on the date we wanted to travel with JetBlue. We stayed at an hotel (Crowne Plaza) near JFK where they offer free parking for one week as long as you spend one night at the hotel. We used their free shuttle service to and from the terminal. It was really useful as we had a very early morning departure.

Also long-term airport parking coupons here (and also for the UK if you have friends or relatives coming over to see you):

kayak gets most of them - or use skyscanner.net for low cost carriers (LCCs) worldwide.

Here are the major players in low cost domestic air travel, Southwest, AirTran, Frontier, and JetBlue. Your best bet would be to check directly with the respective websites as they provide the cheapest rates. Southwest Airlines offers a really cool utility that allows you to get access to their cheaper rates via Ding. Check the site out for more information. Ding fares are not on their regular fare schedules and cannot be access outside of the Ding application. I've used it an saved bundles.

I just got back from Florida, it cost me $54 one way (Dulles to Tampa) with Southwest, hard to beat that. I booked it on their website, some search engines don`t check all airlines so do your research.

Southwest is known not to link out at all.

Actually I think Southwest participates in some, but not all of the search engines.

I like www.airfarewatchdog.com myself - it includes Southwest.

They don't participate in sites like Travelocity, Orbitz, or Expedia where you can actually purchase tickets. They only have four outlets for purchase, their site, the phone, the airport, and your travel agent. Farewatching sites are different thing all together.
