Intent to Marry letter - what language should it be in if he doesn't speak English?
 

I can't get a straight answer for this one: They are telling me his intent to marry letter has to be in his native language and then translated by a certified translator, others say it has to be in English. Can someone answer this?

English -or- native language with an
English translation. The translation can be done by anyone who signs a statment that they are proficient in both languages. It does not need to be notarized.

OR - you can write a single letter of intent and both sign it.

There is no standard format, it must only say that you are both free to marry and intend to do so within 90 days after entry on a K-1 visa.

I didn't get one from my fiancee on my first visit to China, but had her do the rest of her part of the application. When I got ready to submit it, I realized that I didn't have one from her. So, I prepared a letter in English and attached it to an email. She printed it out, signed it and then sent a scanned jpeg back to me. The is what I used for her letter of intent to mail with the petition. It was approved without an RFE.

As far as I remember it needs to be in English. If the
applicant is not able to write English, he should ask a
certified translator to do it.

At least that is what I saw on all the forms. I don't
believe I ever had to write a letter like that though..........
