Insurance for Shipping Container

Simpson's is booked to pack us up this time next week (yay!). However we still need to sort out our insurance for the container. I am sure I read on one of these threads about organising insurance through a separate company as it's cheaper, but I cannot find that thread.

Can anybody recommend an insurer?

We had our own special shipping policy before I closed the company in the UK. I seem to remember the magic terms is "Marine Insurance"

There are a bunch online of course, like "Cargoinsurancedirect.com"

hi Karen,

I can't personally comment on third party insurance companies as we provide our own in house at Bournes but have heard a bit about them on here, hopefully someone will have some personal experience to share with you.

Just one thing to point out though which i'm sure you're already aware of is to make sure the cover is like for like and not a cheaper premium for a reason. E.g. What is the excess for a claim, what type of cover is it (indemnity/new for old), what is the claims process, is any period of storage covered, is there a maximum claim limit, does it cover general average/salvage charges, are things like mechanical derangement/pairs and sets/mould and mildew covered etc.

Hope that helps and best wishes for your move!

Kirsty
