Experience of writing to mine a month before I left the UK means I am still waiting for a reply!

Hi,
If you are leaving the country permantly you may file form P85 this is to reclaim any
tax that you paid, I filed my form P85 in August, and yesterday I finally receieved
money in my bank account £687.73 I only got that much because it goes from April 5th
till he day you quit your job, I quit in June so only 2½ months of Tax I had paid.

I waited to file a tax return the year later (because I still had other UK income) -
you recover any extra tax you've paid then too.
