Importing wooden furniture
Anyone had any problems with US customs over importing wooden furniture?
I was made aware that the packing case I am shipping some belongings in had to be made out of a pre treated timber and not just out of any old piece of wood. However, I am hoping to import an old piece of mahogany furniture and just wondered whether this will present a problem as it's not been treated. Well not in the last 150 years anyway.

Where are you bringing it from? When we came over from Singapore we brought a lot of asian wooden furniture back, ranging from several hundred year old chinese cabinets to reproduction indonesian knock-offs. All of the moving companies said we had to get it treated to ensure clearance into the US - basically they just "bombed" the container once it was loaded to make sure any bugs/critters were killed. We got a certificate issued, and that was presented to customs and no problems. But this may be something specific about importing from Asis, I don't know...
