Importing Vehicles
Hi, its a bit of a shot in the dark, but has anyone imported a car from South Africa to the US? If so to add to the complications it is not a road car, (its a race car) so would have to be container shipped.Or does anyone know of a good vehicle import company....dealing with the RSA authorities is very difficult! Thanks.

Re: Importing Vehicles
A quick google suggests there is an exemption for race cars but there are conditions such as it has to have been originally manufactured as a race car.

Re: Importing Vehicles
Hi, it is a converted road car, its an Alfa Romeo 1969 gtv. it has been race modified and is not really 'roadworthy'.

Re: Importing Vehicles
i think the tricky thing will be getting it out of RSA, they are crazy bureaucrats! We want to avoid having to go back there and dealing with this if we can.

Re: Importing Vehicles
Hi, yes they do. We left last June and had to bring our funds by cheque to the US, once we banked the cheque and had it cleared the South African bank bounced it, and called it back. They did eventually concede that it was money that we had brought into South Africa that we were moving out, and we were not profiting at the expense of the country, but it was a messy experience which took a long time to sort.
