Re: I'm so tired of living in 'Home of the slave'
I worked a short contract at a Japanese Pharma type company a couple of years back and I have to say, within six weeks I quickly concluded there's no way I would live and work in Japan. Atttitudes towards the women both in the workplace and as wives was a real eye opener.
OK, so that rules out Japan from his list! I have friends who lived in Sweden for a year (thanks to some ABB -Asea Brown Boveri - projects) and said that, while 'nice' and 'interesting', was incredibly dull and uninspiring (with brutal long winters). As I said, he can keep his utopian existence and I'll stick to Silicon Valley ... maybe retire to Spain or Italy where the people have 'spirit' ...

I must say this does reflect what I heard from other friends who have visited. They spoke of the whole prostitution culture, and the male dominated workplace.

We were flat sharing in the ME with a great guy from Oslo, they've moved back there now and his GF, a Scot/American seems to be adapting okay. It's beautiful, their summer house is fantastic aswell but I couldn't hack that weather or light.
I'm hoping we might get to visit for a holiday soon
