illinois help needed
hi
I have just returned to the UK after a hoiuse hunting trip in illinois, mainly looking for the St Charles/Geneva/Batavia area has anyone any info on these places as regards to elementary schools and what I can expect to pay for a decent 4 bd single family home ( is $300,000 - $400,00 a reasonable figure), also the cost of property tax as a percentage of the house. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks |

I was just being a NYC, Manhattan snob. Plus I hate NYC, think its the worst place in USA. Reg. Frank R. |
hubby spent 4 months in manhatten last year, ok for holiday but wouldn't want to live there. I loved Chicago as a city but again I wouldn't choose to live there, I guess I'm a country girl at heart, I like to see green fields and not grey buildings.

Regards Deb I tell my UK friends I live in the Capital of the Third World. Never seen anywhere else, even in USA where people sell new & used stuff on the sidewalk. I live in an area, where 275sf studios rent for $1700 per month, 650sf 5th floor walkup is selling for $700k. Townhouses sell for $7 million upwards.Tim Robbins & Susan Saradon live on my block. They walk out to the smell of urine & dirt. My NY friends can’t believe I would want to live in Florida or elsewhere. Reg. Frank R. |
If you want to learn anything about Chicago or the neighborhoods, including many answers to your questions, go to http://www.skyscraperpage.com/forum
Go into the "Midwest" forums ( http://www.skyscraperpage.com/forum/...php?forumid=39 ) and ask any question regarding Chicago there. There are a TON of locals from the Chicago area that read that forum and they will alll be more than happy to help you and answer any questions about the Chicago area. I know Chicago well enough to know that $400,000 will get you a pretty amazing house in my opinion. |
BTW you may want to consider living in Wisconsin and commuting to Chicago if you feel you are a country girl. Without traffic, it takes about 20 minutes to get from the Wisconsin border to downtown Chicago. Kenosha, WI is a very nice place to live, and CHEAP. It is considered a Chicago suburb.

Originally posted by debs39 you mentioned Kenosha, as a district to live how are the schools in this area as this is one of my priorities, thanks for your help it is appreciated Debs Any school in the suburbs of Chicago are EXCELLENT, in my opinion. The only bad schools are around the south side of Chicago where the poorer neighborhoods are. If you live north of Chicago, the schools are wonderful. Like I said, for further questions, go to that Skyscraperpage forum. Tons of Chicago and Milwaukee area locals there that love to answer questions about their area. |
BTW if you want to see what you can by in places like Kenosha for $300-$400K, be sure and just check the web.
http://www.realtor.com/ ...is a great web site. For $400K, you can get a literal mansion in Kenosha. Let me know what you find. I'll be curious to see what/where you eventually decide on. |

EXCEPT that Kenosha is in fact an hour from downtown Chicago in no traffic, and expect up to 90 minutes in rush hour. It is a nice place, but really quite far. |
