But many businesses say they fill a much needed gap in the labor market. The vast pool of illegal unqualified workers is a bracket for innovations. Why the employer should invent machines that make productions more effective when he can hire an illegal mexican who is payed 3$/h. Further more, this kind of immigration is a problem for the mexican economy. People who are willing to work leave their country and at the same time the market access for mexican products is much more difficult because of the vicious circle this wage dumpings are creating. What about the problems on a social level? Illegals earn less then minimal wage. How they can survive once they are too old to work? who will pay for their social security? medicare? A lot of costs are not considered by the author of this yahoo article. |

I am becoming more and more convinced that the US has never got over its loss of slavery, illegals are a much much better bet:
1. Unlimited Supply. 2. No Capital Investment, in fact they incur the costs of shipping themselves to you. 3. No Housing costs. 4. No Medical Costs. 5. No sickness/injury issues. 6. No social costs, well to the employer. 7. Minimal wage costs, which have the added benefit of holding down wages for who may not be illegal. In all a much better deal than slaves. |

No I think he was at the absolute best Uni for him and his hoped for field - first Law School then Politics.Cornell is the Alma Mater of Olberman, Bill Maher and other luminaries of the modern political punditry. Coulter and Wolfowitz also went there ( oh well). |

Agreed, Cornell is an excellent college. My nephew is hoping for the same step ladder career jump. He went to Washington and Lee and then on to George Washington University for his law degree. He is now a partner in a DC law firm and plays golf with several Supreme Court Justices. So he is making the connections to go with his aspirations.

but yet people still want to shop at walmart for its 'every day low prices'
how do they think they get low prices? Certainly not by hiring americans even at minimum wage. People want to have their cake and eat it. They want the lowest possible cost, costs have been driven down so low now people have no idea what the real cost of the items they buy is. But yet they bitch and moan when their jobs are outsourced to a country with cheaper wages and they bitch when illegal immigrants are hired at below minimum wage. People have become too used to paying too low prices. They want the luxury goods but at cheapo prices. THere is always an additional cost its just that its hidden these days. Food is way too cheap here, electronics and clothes are too cheap too. Financial and legal services are too expensive I think. One thing I noted here was how people are obsessed by price. Sure people are in England too but amongst lets say 'well educated comfortably off people' price still is a driving factor here whereas quality of goods seemed to be a suprisingly high motivataional factor in the England (well London anyway). I hear people at work on 6 figure salaries talking about how cheap their meal was, how cheap their clothes were, what a great bargain they are. Not how good quality the food was, not how they paid extra for fairtrade goods in the hopes that someone in the third world got paid a little extra to make their life a little better.
