Yep, personally I love this country and I've been here 2 1/2 years. The weather's great where I am, there's so much going on (concerts, outdoor events, garage sales, clubs, car shows, gun shows, inhouse, outhouse....um getting carried away there).

The food's great, the people where I live are great, the drivers don't know how to indicate, the variety is amazing, the politicians suck.

I know I now live a much richer life than was open to me back home in NI. Of course if I have a grievance I'll tell you about it, just like I would back home.

It's different - just enjoy it!

I think its called "being enlightened". Most Americans have never left the country and have no perspective except the one they have given by living here. Americans have been "brainwashed" and us "foreigners" can see the difference in the truth and what they beleive to be the truth. For cliffs sake, if 911 didn't wake them up then nothing will!

I don't think we come here and complain as much as tell it like it is, most americans think it is heracy to say anything bad about the president - when in fact it is the whole point of freedom of speech!

I have lived in worse places and I have lived in better places but the fact is I live here now and have to deal with it, but dont stop me from complaining about it, thats unconstitutional!

Two things I just don't understand:

Why some USC's think that being an immigrant/non-immigrant visitor/non-USC means you have to keep your mouth shut.

Why so many USC's forget that if it weren't for immigration, they wouldn't be here either.

I think it might be worse in the south, but so many of them are so touchy it is unbelievable. I've learned to grit my teeth or I'd not have any friends!

Alright, I can't take it anymore. I'll break my own rule about not rising to threads like this and mix it up with you lot.

It's posts like this that are truly indicative about what Americans like me find infuriating.

This is a ridiculously patronizing generalization of 260 million people in the most diverse country in the world yet it's the kind of thing I read here every friggen day. Does this apply to my Korean immigrant in-laws? How about to me, a person who has lived in four countries? Also, are you saying that every other country is completely immune to provincialism? Have you ever been to Japan? How many people in the UK could place Seattle on a map?

On top of that, you managed to get in a 9-11 comment which is both incredibly insulting and completely ignorant on your part. What do the actions of a murdering millionaire psychopath and his band of brainwashed upper-middle class cronies who's stated goal is to impose sharia on the entire world have to do with the "ignorance" of Americans? People like you who apparently believe that somehow Bin Laden represents the rightous repressed uprising against American "hegemony" need to wake the **** up and read what these people actually stand for.

Another ridiculous statement. Almost 50% of people here didn't vote for Bush. the press is filled with critical comments. More likely, Americans are offended when they read or hear generalized, polemical bullshit like this and you misinterpret it as reflexive nationalism.

Debate=/=censorship. Also, go read an American UK expat board some time. I'm sure to you, it seems that the people just "don't get" the UK and you're probably right. They're missing the true flavor of the place. I feel the same way when I read this board, people here have very limited experience with an incredibly vast country and come up with very petty complaints that only pertain to their tiny corner of the country. News flash: YOU'RE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY, this isn't the UK and it's not going to be.

/rant done.

I think that fact that 5/6 US citizens don't have a passport tells a story all on it's own. That's what Patrick meant when he said 'most Americans'.

Part of the ignorance I see personally is that on international affairs and the American 'bubble'; it's not about who commited or what the crime was but rather it was hoped, and reported in the British media, that this event might have burst that bubble.

That's true, many American's didn't vote for Bush, but even to those you can't say anything about him because they'll ask you why you're living here - in my experience it's best just to keep your mouth shut.

I think this should be moved to TIO forum personally. I read your comments with interest. You say you have lived in 4 countries. Most Americans that have lived in Japan were posted there and likewise with Germany, Korea etc etc so was your visit by choice or not?
