I may have taken Americanisation too far!
I did a test on one of those blood pressure meters at Sams Club at the weekend and mine came in at 151 which is above the 130-139 which is considered the norm. My stoic(sp) was also 97, 7 above the 90 norm. I'm guessing the 20 or so pounds I have gained since arriving has started to catch up with me, as I never had blood preasure problems before. My first ever visit to An American doctor is monday.

Cut back on salty foods and see if that helps. Things like catsup are deadly.

Your blood pressure might be even higher by the end of your appointment when you realize the cost of your visit...

Ditch the Sam's Club food. There's a TJ's round the corner from you -- McClintock and Guadalupe.

First of all you have to remember how many people use these BP meters and how inaccurate they usually are unless they are calibrated regularly.
Salt is a good thing to cut back on as is caffeine as they both raise BP levels.
Good luck with your doctors appointment. I hope you don't have "White Coat Syndrome" though 'cos that will elevate your BP as well

Hopefully the gym and a swift kick up the arse will shift it this year.
Also when I went home to Blighty at Christmas I went to see my dentist for a check up and his chin hit the floor after looking at my teeth - he said in the 2 years I'd been in America I now had more tooth damage (cavities) than I'd ever had in all my 15 years of going to see him :scared:

That said due to the amount of fizzy drinks I now consume - about 3/4l a day instead of maybe 0.4l every 2 days - I am not looking forward to my next visit to the dentist back home

we still visit our uk dentist....hubs has not got one filling..lucky bu**er anyway last yr he had a slight ache in his back tooth and visited a dentist here that he was recommended to ...after the consultation the dentist here said hubs had a crown that needed re-doing also had severe gum disease and that the dentist wanted to perform $3000 plus of the latest gum technique on him hubs hauled ass back to our uk dentist for 2nd opinion and she went crazy and confirmed that hubs has not got one filling/crown and no sign of gum disease....his problem had been an old un-erupted wisdom tooth...yes at his age....hubs contacted the us dentist here and told him what our uk dentist had said and that she wanted to see xrays of hubs gum disease.... that was last fall and we still have not received xrays and i suspect we wont ... con artists...there's a dentist on every corner here
