I don't know where you are, but there are some nice shops (mainly chains) at Rookwood, close to Hyde Park. Also Hyde park and Oakley themselves have some cute smaller shops. Mainstrasse Village in Newport is nice too....
If you DO fancy a pub quiz, The Dubliner on Montgomery Rd at pleasant ridge is great (but crowded; and you need a few americans on the team cos it's definitely USA orientated).
