Default How will you be celebrating the 24th August?

Unfortunately we have a fire ban around here, no connection, but a bonfire would have been nice.

24th August 1814

British burn Washington, including the White House.

some how don't think that'll go down a treat with the locals, even if they did remember the significance *l*

Nice idea, although these days you would have to burn a ranch in Tx to catch the prez.

Most locals would just think its some mad English thing.....
But seeing as its not something we would do in the UK...celebrate the 24th August..I can't see the point of doing it over here.......

I think it must have been the lack of a huge string of smileys that fooled her into thinking that Boiler wasn't totally taking the piss!

Hmm. Double negative there. Better make it clear that I'm joking.

Actually I was thinking of it as payback time.

At Christmas we put up a 8ft star, all lit up, we are up on the side of the hill above the town and we are following a precedent set by the people we bought the house from.

So I was thinking of a cut out of the White House with red and yellow streamers coming up vertically above it. Use a spot light and a small fan to make the streamers dance, and it could look quite realistic.

Burning a Catholic in effigy, on Nov 5th, is probably not PC these days. Maybe a move to replace it with celebrating the sacking of Washington would gain favour. Especially as the current White House seems to have little support back in Blighty.

Trafalgar Day!

I am sure that would garner most support!

I don't know.....I think we should of started it back in the UK a few moons ago..........you can't just start celebrating things willy nilly because its easier to get fireworks all year round over here........

It's a long, long way from southwest Austin to Crawford, mate. Wish I could be of more assistance.
