how soon can i return to the usa after my 90 day visa waiver has expired? i would like to come back as soon as i can. can i nip out for a pint in canada and then return, or do i have to leave for 5 or 6 pints?

seriously though, how long does it take before i am eligible for another 90 days?

thankyou.

You can not go to adjacent countries and come back for another 90 days.
This so-called flagpoling is explicitly prohibited by the law.
The law doesn't provide any specific timeframe before coming back, however,
if you do that too often, the INS officers at the border will start to
suspect immigration intent, and will eventually send you back.
A good rule of thumb is to not use the visa waiver more than once or twice
a year.

Its a good point that could do with explaining a little more, I'm looking at
traveling in the States for around 6 months or so and am a lot worried about
getting knocked back after 90 days, after a beer or 2 in Canada could I not
just nip down to Mexico for a tequila chaser?

If you want to stay in the US for 6 months, you'll need a visa and to
get the visa you'll have to be able to justify it.

Again, you cannot re-enter from adjacent countries and get a new 90 days
if you enter on the visa waiver (90 day) program.
