How to set up garbage collection?
Im in Mass, moving to a new home and need to set up garbage collection?
How do you do that? Do you just go to the town's website? Many thanks!:) |
Re: How to set up garbage collection?
Basically, yes. You need to find out who the contracted company is for your house and then call them up to get an account.

Re: How to set up garbage collection?
If you are within the city limits, the information you need will be available at City Hall (or its website).

Re: How to set up garbage collection?
First, find out if your city actually offers garbage collection! Round my way, it's hire a private contractor or DIY.

Re: How to set up garbage collection?
Look at your neighbours' bins. If they are marked as city/town property, phone the city/town. If they are all the same contractor's bins phone the contractor. If there are bins from multiple contractors, perhaps even dragged to the curb on different days of the week, take your pick of which contractor to call. ..... Isn't there a bin already outside your home?

Maybe even talk to your neighbors?

Re: How to set up garbage collection?
If the town does it, it's automatic and you may or may not need to get special bags.
If you have to use the dump, you go to town hall usually to get a dump pass,. If you need private collections, just ring one of the numerous companies up and it's about $35-50 a month. |
Re: How to set up garbage collection?
If you've got an HOA they sort it out for you:scarper:

There's another reason, Bob, that you need to get your ä$$ out of Mass.
In my neck of the woods its $16-$18/ mth. :) Some other towns charge $250-450 year for a dump pass but they usually then don't charge a per use fee. |

Solid waste service for the month of January $26.85 There's some weird line items on there: Water base fee $4.45 Environmental mandates water 2.28 City services tax 1.50 sewer fee 17.33 Environmental mandates sewer 3.97 state mandated jail costs 1.00 city sales tax 0.76 state and other taxes 1.15 So, total water bill of $60 of which only about $5 is actually water. Interesting just noticed we used under 5000 gallons last month so there was no water usage fee on top of the base fee. |

Here in Boonies Texas, trash is 10.65 a month for a once a week collection. We also have 2 free bulk pickups a month, you call to schedule if you need a large item taking away.

It's part of my "City of Phoenix" water bill. I happen to have one right here on my desk.

Re: How to set up garbage collection?
I live in an apartment complex so trash isn't done by the municipality and is included in the rent, so no idea how much an apartment complex has to pay, but for residential users in single family homes waste collection which includes recycling and organics varies depending on what size tote you want, and ranges from 15 to 25 per month charged once per year in one lump sum, and is bi-weekly pick up.
Tote sizes are 35/65/95 gallon. You have to use a municipal tote, can't use your own. Dump fees totally depend on what your dumping. Recyclables have no charge. Solid waste is $115 per tonne. Mixed waste is $230 per tonne. Most households don't have a tonne, so there is a weighing rate of $30 if you just have a bit of trash, but most of the area is covered by the municipal waste collection so residents don't need to take everyday trash to the dump. Some in the boonies collect their trash and then burn it when allowed. |
