Given what some folks are paying, I guess we're doing pretty good. We have all electric, no gas or oil. Our last bill is the highest we've had at $131. We've only been in the house for 7mo so I'm pleasantly surprised thus far. Even our summer bills were lower than this (the highest was $90). Our house is about 15 y/o with a brick facade on the front and siding on 3 sides.

I really want to get a wood fireplace, not so much for the heat though. But I don't know how pricey it is to actually install a fireplace, or if it can be done.

smoke stacks are pricey to install and if you live somewhere warm, they're sort of planet warming arent they?
Dont burn more carbon unless you really have to

Had the windows open today - have even had to turn the a/c on inside the house a few days.

Winter is usually when we pay less..summer bills are horrific.

we actually just got a dual heat pump furnace

we used to jusdt have a straight gas furnace

i figured that since gas in TN is average price for the country and electricity is cheap I would try and take advantage of the cheap electricity

so essentially down to 40f it uses electic heat pump for heating and below that it uses gas

its supposed to be quite economical in the part of the country we are it

lets see feb and march bill...

I'm now off to cry at the pain
I spend about $350-$400 in the summer in A/C, and about $150 a month in the winter in heat etc......I live in AZ

Yeah, used to wake up in the morning and the only warm room was the kitchen. Aga's are just a part of country life aren't they?

Oops, nearly forgot: $200/month on budget plan. Summer's expensive, Winter is mild.

Innit! Just like with cars, years of cheap fuel have led to a combination of inefficient heating, poor insulation and the consumer's expectation that it either be fearsomely hot or freezing cold (depending on whether it's winter or summer). And then it's a mystery when it costs a lot to do it! It's never going to get any cheaper, either.

Nothing. I live in an apartment billing and my heat, water, parking and gas for the stove are included in my rent. So freaking hot in the place that I have open windows at all times.
