Question How Much are Ciggies in Your Area?

I don't smoke but I had family visit from Norfolk, VA over Easter.

The aunty was saying how ciggies are more expensive there than in NC which I found hard to believe.

Anyway, she bought a carton of Marlboro's from a local grocery store for $22.99 plus tax (5 cents p/pk, 2nd lowest in the country apparently). The next day, she found that the local gas station near where I live in Durham, NC sold the same ciggies cheaper.

She says a carton of the same in Norfolk is 29.99 plus tax.

So, the question is:

how much are ciggies (please name brand) in your area?

About the same, though I have seen them as low as $30 plus tax.

B&H quality $3.80 a pack
Marlboro Lights $3.20 a pack
Camel $3.25
Slims or whatever, double pack for $4

Noticed there aren't any half packs of fags around here though...couldn't say I notice the cartons myself, haven't had a fag in ages, and then it was a rollie...lot cheaper to skin up a fag in blighty and all that.

The other half noticed that 10pks are really popular in the UK, probably due to the cost of 20s.

He says that 10s were commonplace maybe in the 70s and 80s but he's not seen any 20s of any ciggies (he doesn't smoke now).

Unfortunately the easy solution is always to raise taxes rather than actually cutting some of the ridiculous prrograms that are put in place and never repealed. I suppose I have little sympathy for states or cities that like Detroit or MI have received trillions of dollars from the big three in taxes and income taxes from their employees...and are totally bancrupt due to their inability to control their finances- as you or I would have to.
