I've bumped into a few around trader joes or whole foods, don't have a need to strike up a conversation though....oh, and know someone on BE lives in the same town as me, just not hooked up for drinks yet.

No, I figure if I meet a Brit in America, generally there's the "where are you from?" and then it turns out we have nothing in common apart from coming from England. We would never have ended up being friends (or even meeting each other) if we'd both stayed in England. Why does politeness dictate that we're buddies now?

I normally say it was nice to meet them, wish them luck and then follow obediantly off after my wife (who's carried on walking and is blooming miles away by then.)

But then here I am hanging out on his board so my logic makes NO SENSE.
That was the case in Texas where it was a bit of a novelty - but here in NYC - surely they'd think you were a nutter - seriously every other person is a brit here!

I agree.
It's nice to have a conversation with someone who has similar points of reference to you. Sometimes I get fed up with not understanding half the things in a conversation and then not being understood.

There are quite a lot of Brits where I live.We don't live in each others pockets but we do get together.

I keep hearing strange rumours about Brit's in my local but I have yet to meet any of them .....the very nice Sophia ....who post's on this forum, called me on the phone once. Very charming she was too! She lives a few towns away.

Considering that Caterpillar has its global headquarters in Peoria (21 miles away) it is unusual that I haven't met a fellow Brit yet ....quite a few Brits work there ....and I have been in the pubs and curry house in Peoria but alas not one has appeared ...

Know of one in Newport News, VA who is not of the older generation ... Mark of Jenney and Mark. I'd venture they are in their late 20's.

Not many at all, although I walked past a group of 6 twentysomething Brits in Target at the weekend (past the Boots cosmetics aisle, bizzarely). Two of my co-workers are married to Brits, but usually the only British accent I hear is my own.

There are quite a few in Gainesville there is Graham who works in CVS, Nathan who used to work in the bank, Roy who used to live next door etc etc.
Oddly they are all blokes and I haven't met any English women here. My wife always gets excited if we meet someone English but I try to explain to her that I have met lots of English people before seeing as I lived in the UK for 20 years so they are really not that fascinating to me. Moreover none of the ones I have met here even like football so I am inclined to believe they are not really even English but are actually Welsh spies.

I keep running into holidaying chavs around Miami, they're so annoying "all-wight mate, a's it goin', you's English innit".

I'm finding it difficult to resist punching them in the face.

Fortunately I haven't met any chavs who live here.

In Town, 4, One moved out recently. And one has been here for 40 years.

But I did meet a Dutch lady the other day, I think she is likely to be the only one.

And when I got lost up in the hills the guy I asked directions was, not sure who was more surprised.

There are a few Brits here....more Scots than English, though. This is to do with Scotland's having some semiconductor fabs and Austin's having some, too.

Most Texas British expats live in Houston (oil) where Shell and BP have offices.

I know quite a few Brits in VA Beach,I used to run a darts team in Hampton/Newport News and always had fifteen to twenty Brits on the team and knew many more in that area.Dont know how many there are there now as i left in 1981.Here in AJ and Gold Canyon i know of at least twenty families from UK and there are many in Mesa and the Phoenix metro.
