Many towns have welcoming committees formed from residents and people actively seek out newcomers to explain the ins and outs of the community.

The local town hall will likely have a local community "board" with details of what's happening locally and clubs etc.

Often communities form an "international club" for foreign residents and those Americans who have lived abroad.
