How to exceed Visa Waiver 90-day limit?

Hello all,
I'm currently in the US on a long vaccation together with my american girlfriend. I'm on a sebaticle (spelling(?)) from work, and was originally planning to stay the full 90 day period and then return home to Sweden.
Now, during the original 90 days we are planning to leave the US a couple of days and go down to the carribean. My question is, if this would also make it possible for me to stay an additional month in the US.
I'm very concerned not to violate any rules as we will hopefully get married some day and possibly live here.
