oh well, your post helped me. I applied for an Amex card today and was declined, reason: "Insufficient established credit" (no shit!). So at least I know what to do now!! I was daft enough to think that my existing UK card might help me obtain a US one....but I guess not! it takes credit to get credit.........

If you've got a UK AMEX, you can usually covert it to a US AMEX. The link to the relevant info on AMEX's site is in this forum somewhere -- but you'll have to look for it yourself.

thanks! I will look for the link. I told the gal on the phone I had a current UK Amex and she said I had to apply from scratch, so I guess she was wrong.... urgh

yep talking nonsense

alsoi applied for a amex in the UK before moving and never went through with the credit agreement etc

applied for it in the USA - denied obviously

went to www.planetfeedback.com and wrote a letter to the exec office saying WTF you approved me in the UK...

3 weeks later blue cash with 5 figure limit
