How can I make a good cheese and onion sandwich.
Hi! Been really craving a cheese and onion sandwich recently. Nothing fancy, what you'd get in a Tesco or wherever. I've tried a few times using various online recipes and they usually end up tasting of salad cream and onion. They're alright, but never really have the right taste or texture.
Any reccos?

Try grating Dubliner Irish cheddar (Costco or Sam's club) and use whole foods 365 mayo.

The Tesco version has some cream cheese in it...perhaps lessen the Mayo content and add some of this. It seems getting strong cheddar would be key to offsetting the Mayo. I’ve settled for Old Croc as a decent enough cheddar. Trader Joe’s might carry Red Leicester which is also in the Tesco version.
Ocado helpfully lists proportions of each ingredient in the M&S cheese and onion filler which might help... https://www.ocado.com/products/m-s-c...ller-506104011

Now you’ve got me wondering how to make an authentic M&S ham, cheese and pickle...

I don't think you are asking quite the right question. It should be "How can I make a good ploughman's lunch with ale?"

Well seeing as it is in the US forums is anyone going to suggest using cheese from a spray can?

They don't put that in the sandwich though, they just squirt it directly into their mouths.
Also, nobody has pointed out the lack of Branston pickle.

As for the Ploughman's I fortunately have access to the real deal Branston-wise!
