Looks like there are a ton of restaurants in the area (I used Mapquest), but one you may like is La Madeleine. A bit pricey, but good food -- quiches, fresh soup, and such.

# La Madeleine Bakery Cafe

I like the brolly idea . . . but if it's raining, everyone may be carrying one!

Not so much-they don't seem to be standard equipment in the US. I seldom bother with one and just pretend I am in a wet Tee shirt contest.

I was in a store and the little boy behind me picked up an umbrella and asked his mum "what is this?"

Really, it's funny, I just don't like fiddling with them and of course, my DH being a Brit is dumfounded.

Me neither, it's funny during a rain to see all the stuff people put over their heads to keep dry! People run around like fire is dropping out of the sky!

Another question for those who know better than us!

We've got visitors coming - OH's daughter and her boyfriend (mid 20s) for a week.

So far we've got a few things planned out - a visit to the Space Centre, pictures to see Simpsons the movie (their request!), a shopping trip to Best Buy (again, their request) and then I thought a trip to some malls (possibly Galleria), check out the theatre district, take in a baseball game and time round the pool.

Have we missed anything glaringly obvious? Or do you have any better/other suggestions?

Thanks guys

Drive to San Antonio and go to the River Walk and to the Alamo.

Thanks for replying

We went to San Antonio a couple of weekends ago and thought about taking them there too, but it's really an overnighter, so ruled that out.

Galveston isn't too far for a day/evening trip though, is it?

What about the Forbidden Gardens? Worth a visit?

Yes go to the Forbidden Gardens and tell me what it is like....haven't been there yet.

Galveston is not far at all. If you go walk all the boardwalk, along the sea front. There is also a good Flight Museum near Moody Gardens if any of you like old planes.

I like Galveston but not so much in the summer time. It is a bit busy this time of the year.

Kemah is another alternative and that's not far to go. Good restaurants there as well.

Brilliant - thank you. I've just ordered it!

We've also been to Kemah although it was a stinking hot day, so we didn't enjoy it too much. And it was there that some random hairdresser managed to give me a Texan massacre look!

We did have a fantastic seafood lunch overlooking the water though, and watched the boats coming and going

We've not met yet - 3 hours to go!!

We're meeting at an Outback which is bang on half-way for both of us, but don't ask me where as I've not got the address here, and besides, the Sat-Nav does all the hard work lol
