Hotels in NY/LA/SF
Have been looking at hotels on booking.com for a family members trip in Sep. Any recommendations on hotels or areas would be appreciated (mainly LA/SF).
Itinerary is 5 nights New York (2nd-7th Sep), 5 nights LA (7th-12th Sep) and San Fran bay area for 2/3 nights (12th onwards). Budget around £1000 for NY, £800 for LA and as cheap as possible for a 3/4 * in San Fran bay for 2 bed room. Have looked at The Manhattan in Times Square for New York, but have no idea for LA/San Fran. Any recommendations? :) Edit: Wrong forum, apologies. Please move to the trailer park. |
Re: Hotels in NY/LA/SF
Do them a favor and look further afield than Times Square save money and much nicer in other areas.

Re: Hotels in NY/LA/SF
I would bid on Priceline for all of them! ;)

Where in LA though? The downtown area is not necessarily the place to be if you're a tourist. But on the other hand, if they'll be travelling by public transport everywhere then somewhere close to the rail/bus hubs would be convenient I guess. All depends where they want to go.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look further afield than Times Square and have a hunt on Priceline.
As for where in LA, they simply want to be able to walk to restaurants from the hotel, and be able to get a short taxi journey to a beach. They're happy to get a taxi to any of the tourist destinations if they decide to do that, however they're only there for 5 days. :) |

We went to NY and rented a holiday apartment - was nice, not that we were there much.

For LA - I'd opt for Santa Monica.
It's great for walking, wandering, people watching - restaurants, sidewalk cafes, shopping - and you're at the beach!!! Try this for Googling apt. rentals by the day/week https://www.google.com/search?q=apar...ient=firefox-a ps: Just googled...this looks pretty good: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-ren...page:2/p950242 |
Re: Hotels in NY/LA/SF
I'm a fan of a hotel called Morgans in NYC (it's Madison and 37th). It's a boutique hotel (no signs outside to advertise it's there).
It really depends what you're looking for though. Hotels are almost as personal as buying a house - everyone has a different set of priorities! |

I would suggest getting a list of possible places to go so you could concentrate on particular areas. LA is huge and stuffed with traffic, so you don't want to be (say) east of the city if you travel every day to the west. That said, SM is probably a reasonable compromise for Hollywood (sign, walk of fame/stars), Universal Studios, Getty museum, etc. |

Hotel Toshi was the name of the company we used, however they appear to have since gone out of business!

Re: Hotels in NY/LA/SF
I stay at the Affinia hotels when in NYC - last time was at the Affinia Manhattan. Used to stay at Morgans or the Hudson but they got kicked off the company list as they became too expensive!

Thanks for the replies. I'll look at SM for LA, and like the look of the airbnb website. :)
