I have just downloaded Hoola TV from the Apple apps store, you get a 7 day free trial and from then on it is $5 per month. You get all the BBC channels, ITV, Channel 4 etc, it is live tv and the recording component is coming soon. I highly recommend this as I’ve been trying to find ways to watch BBC here in the USA.

So how does this work? As soon as I hit the BBC 1 tab, it instantly started to show a gardening show without any need to sign up like other VPns. On the apps tab, it says the following, TVCatchup is only available to people living within the UK whom have a valid UK TV licence. So how was I able to watch it?

Legal CYA? Technologically, there's a lot more the BBC could do to stop us naughty ex-pats from accessing the iPlayer from abroad but for now they don't bother.

Yes. I've tried some UK catch up apps that use location services and even with my VPN they don't work. I'm glad iPlayer doesn't do that (yet?)

I have the TV catch-up app but find it limiting in that (so far as I can see; correct me if I'm wrong) it only offers me live tv. I prefer to watch stuff on demand to suit family life/ time difference etc.

Or Hoxx (FREE) - set it to UK and you can watch iplayer etc. I use tvcatchup to watch UK breakfast news etc in late afternoon here. Suits my lifestyle....
Otherwise sign up to Filmon for their recording package then you record your shows and stream them when you're ready.

That's just another vpn isn't it? My vpn works fine. No probs (touch wood) with iPlayer, ITVhub, all 4 etc etc. Its just that there occasionally apps out there that I've come across that require location services to be on, that then kick me off. That's not a vpn issue. I'm just relieved that iPlayer etc doesn't do it (yet).

Ok thanks. I had been misinformed about how some geo fencing stuff worked I think.

Fingers crossed my VPN continues to work for the steaming services I enjoy. At least there are plenty of options out there.

It's really just whack-a-mole, but yes.. plenty of ways around it.

Installed a free VPN to my Firestick, so I can at least access the iPlayer on my big tv as opposed to a phone, tablet or PC. Works well.
