Default Homecoming Queen ???

What is a Homecoming Queen?

I've been asked to provide "votes" for a friends daughter to be Homecoming Queen; I have to donate money per vote!

I just want to know what one is.

No transgender jokes please!

High Schools and colleges have a designated weekend each year for the past graduates of the school (alumni) to return. These weekends usually include a dance, football game, separate class events etc. 10, 20th, 30th, 40th year anniversary classes often get special recognition. In the midsts of all this, a boy and girl from the current senior class are named Homecoming Queen and King. The boy most often for sports ability, the girl for looks or perhaps popularity for both.

All I know about homecoming is, it costs lots of dosh for a dress that looks like a meringue and your house gets invaded by lots of teenagers, all saying "Oh my God, Oh my God" or am I thinking of senior prom?

Are the words "bun" and "oven" appropriate here?

Exactly .. my daughter went to prom last year even though she was only 9th grade, she borrowed a dress but had to have the hair done, nails done, make up, jewellery etc, all her friends came around to admire.

EH?! You normally don't BUY votes for homecoming queen; it's supposed to be voted on by the students, one vote per student! Even if it's for charity it's dead wrong -- the girl is supposed to be popular, not a fundraiser.

In HS we would often throw our collective votes behind a candidate who was in band, or choir, but that's not the same as BUYING votes!

Raffling off the tiara?!

(I've seen it all now.)

You're absolutely right; I thought it was wrong too. Perhaps the school is short of money.... again
