Objective Burma was banned in the UK for 10 years after the war, ot
protrayed Errol Flynn winning the war in Burma single handedly.

The real irony is John Wayne winning the war in films like Sands
of Iwo Jima, even though he ducked out of the real fighting, unlike
James Stewart.

Didn't The Patriot bomb in Britain because of its negative portrayal of
the British soldiers? I've not actually seen the film, but someone I
know who did see it says it depicts the Brits in the film as (in his
words) "Upper Class, Inbred, Power Crazed Nazi's".
We know that
Hollywood will use the US viewpoint in a movie, and has been doing so
for decades. How many people know the few, if any American POW's were
actually involved in The Great Escape? Sometimes they do get it right,
if you want to see a more balanced view of D-Day then just rent/buy The
Longest Day.

I don't know if it is fair that Hollywood gets singled out. Is there
anyone who makes historically accurate action films? Plus, everyone
seems to complain about US-centric films like "Saving Private Ryan"
(which was really about the experience of a squad, NOT an account of
Normandy), but how many war films have come out of the UK over the past
50 years that don't marginalize the contributions of Americans, French,
and Russians?

I think the poor dear got "Engima"
and "U-571" confused, both having to do with the enigma machine. One
played for drama, the other played for action. Both enjoyable.

"U-571"
was the film in which it is an American operation, but the story wasn't
presented as a factual account. It does state at the end that it was
actually a Brit crew that captured the first enigma.

Let's put it this way. I do not know of a SINGLE big budget
historical movie (big meaning bigger than $5 million budget) movie put
out by the majors that DIDN'T incorporate a historical consultant or
expert to consult right from the inception of the script, to the
actual shoot.

I've seen fire experts, police swat experts, horse
experts, war experts, nasa experts, etc. etc. These guys are top-
notch, highly-acclaimed experts in their field. Many have written
books, taught courses, given speecsh, etc. Their rates are pretty
high. VERY high. Some make almost $500 a DAY consulting.

Which is
why i believe these "experts" in this article i believe are just
pissed cuz they didn't get picked for these films. Well, wah wah wah.
I'm sure if they "consulted" ona film -- i'd probably hear "other"
experts complain and this and that.

In the end -- the common addage
is -- NO ONE will ever be happy.

So, with that in MIND. *WHO* do you
want to please ultimately? The grumpy 60 y/o old farts in some far
away country who probably won't go see the flick anyways -- or the 17
y/o kids in your local towns?

Hollywood sells ENTERTAINMENT. Not
historical documentaries to be used in teaching. If you're going to
Hollywood to learn history -- maybe you should take a time out here
and get a grip.

That's akin to me thinking 5,000 years ago in MIddle
Earth -- there were longhaired men running around fighting dragons
with hobbits.
